September 11th in Our Home

September 12, 2015

Although this day means a lot to most Americans, this day has another symbolism with our family. Life.

Our lives changed a year ago today. This day a year ago we were prepping for brain surgery. A surgery that the most minimal risk was becoming a vegetable. With hearing the risks and knowing this was our only option at life, Trey went in for a seven hour surgery. The seven hours felt like seven days, only receiving two updates. "Trey is successfully put under" and "We just reached the brain stem", this update came around four hours in. What was only supposed to be a seven hour surgery ended up being a little over eight, the surgeon came out and seemed positive about the procedure. He explained that Trey was getting "stitched back up and you should go up to the room to wait for him". As I proceeded up the elevator tears started rolling down my face, I had no idea what to expect... I reached the ICU floor at the same time as Trey was being wheeled out of the elevator. He started crying and asked to see his wife, and I lost it. While holding my hand he said"I did it, I did it. I love you so much". As we we walking/wheeled back into the room, it felt as this was our first victory lap (the crowd went wild). It was perfect and I knew that we were going to make it.

Now a year later, we reflect and celebrate life today. As we are fortunate to still have our days together. Cancer has made what most don't have to face every day a reality. Life is too short. You hear it all the time, but we live it. Trey since his cancer and reoccurance has changed his outlook on life and health. Cancer saved us, one doesn't hear that one every day. Our marriage is stronger than ever, our family is growing, and we are surrounded by loved ones. We couldn't ask for a better community to be apart of (insert obnoxious hash tags). Today we want to pass on our celebration. Celebrate with us today, honor your life and those around you. Life really is a beautiful thing.

"So I'm gonna love you
Like I'm gonna lose you
I'm gonna hold you
Like I'm saying goodbye wherever we're standing
I won't take you for granted 'cause we'll never know when
When we'll run out of time so I'm gonna love you
Like I'm gonna lose you
I'm gonna love you like I'm gonna lose you"
